There is no question that technology development moves faster than our regulatory bodies or educational establishments. But that is no excuse for us not doing our best to constantly refresh training courses for scientists and practitioners to take account of new approaches. At Stanford, we have courses on personalized medicine and also have medical residents and fellows rotate through our genetics and genomic medicine clinics/services. By seeing genomic medicine practice first hand, the participants gain an understanding of probability and uncertainty that would be hard to gain from a didactic course. For those not physically here, we also have a certificate course (https://scpd.stanford.edu/public/category/courseCategoryCertificateProfile.do?method=load&certificateId=37637260) Other universities offer similar courses.
